A Simple, Savvy Staycation

Guest post by Regina:
Don’t have the time or money to take a week or even a weekend to fly away to some exotic place? Try a staycation. A staycation is a vacation you take at home.
When I was a teenager I lived in what you could call a concrete jungle. People didn’t pull the weeds because at least they were green! I have wonderful memories of 10-minute bus rides to one of the city parks. The trees were old and wise, and there were rolling hills and an area with water where small children would sail their little boats. Just like what you’d see in a movie or good dream.
I felt safe there and so much a part of nature. In the summer I’d take lunch and a very light book, find a spot under a tree and spend hours with myself having a peaceful time surrounded by nature. If I was upset about something or someone I’d escape to my park and my tree. I even started writing poetry and keeping a journal in that park.
Now I live in a lovely place with mountains, lakes, rivers, and streams nearby. A staycation is even easier now. As I’m writing this blog I’m sitting in the shade by a roaring creek, soaking up the negative ions that make me feel oh, so positive. I was sitting by myself, reading for a long time until some young men came tubing down the creek in front of me, a few young women came to picnic and to wade in the water, and a little girl with a Yorkie pup (like the one shown) rock-leaped past. What fun!

Darling Yorkie
I’m off on my walk now, on the lovely path that follows the creek. Who knows, maybe I’ll get some ice-cream before going home. What a lovely day and great vacation!
You can google “staycations” followed by your zip code, and who knows what wonderful possibilities will open up for you? Your state or local community might send out information on what to do in your area. Stay home and have fun!
