Buy the Correct Amount of Paint

With the price of paint costing more and more every year, you don’t want to waste money buying too much paint. But nobody likes to run out with only a half a wall to go, either.  So it’s important to save time and money by buying the right amount.

Here’s a simple way to calculate how many gallons of paint to buy.

First, calculate the wall area of your room.

  1. Mutliply the height of each wall by its width (don’t subtract for doors and windows unless they take up more than half the wall).
  2. Total the figures for all the walls.
  3. Add 10 percent for future touch-ups.
  4. For two coats (like dark colors), double the number.
