I am a huge movie fan.  Once I find a movie I love, I can enjoy it over and over again to my husband’s dismay.  I always get the same bewildered question, “how many times have you seen that”?!  My newest obsession is the movie “It’s Complicated”.  After purchasing the movie for only $4.99, I have enjoyed it twice with my husband and a couple of times on my own.

In the movie there are a couple of scenes where the characters are enjoying homemade lavender ice cream.   I love lavender, I love ice cream– makes sense!   So I had to try this easy recipe:

Lavender Ice Cream

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/4 cup dried lavender
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 5 large egg yolks
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream

In a medium saucepan, bring the whole milk, lavender, and honey to a gentle boil.  Remove from heat and let sit for at least 5 minutes.  Strain the mixture and toss the lavender and then let the milk mixture simmer over a low heat.

Whisk the egg yolks and sugar together in a bowl until thick and frothy (approx. 3-5 min.)  Add the milk mixture into the egg mixture until well blended and cook over a low heat, stirring constantly until thick enough to coat a wooden spoon.

Remove from heat and immediately stir in the cream. If you have an ice cream maker add the mixture to the container and let chill according to instructions.  If you do not have an ice cream maker pour the ice cream mixture into a freezer container and freeze stirring every half hour for approximately 2 to 3 hours.  It may take a little longer, but well worth it.

Now, go enjoy a bowl (or two) of lavender ice cream and a good movie!
