Maintain Your Drains to Prevent Clogs

Print Friendly

A clogged drain is annoying and can be expensive if you are not equipped to deal with it yourself.  I plan ahead now, so as not to relive my traumatizing attempt at plunging a very nasty clog which ended up in my face, not down the drain.

A couple of times a year or when you notice your drains beginning to slow, dissolve 3-4 Alka-Seltzer tablets down the drain with two cups of boiling water.  Give it some time to fizzle and do the job.   If that doesn’t work try dissolving 3-4 Alka-Seltzer tabs down the drain along with 1 cup of white vinegar and let sit for approx. 15 minutes.  Follow that up with 2 cups boiling water.  The mixture of the vinegar and Alka-Seltzer can produce fumes, so be careful!  This should do the trick!
