Organize Your Kitchen

If you read my New Year’s Resolution or what I now prefer to call a “commitment”, it is all about health. Therefore, I am challenging myself to prepare healthy meals that are easy and inexpensive. Having a well organized kitchen is half the battle, so I will start there.
My kitchen is small, like many of yours, so we have to be creative. Make the most of the inside of your cabinets and drawers. You can purchase wire racks with legs that gives you another layer. You can purchase sliding shelves, one on top of the other to give you more storage. I use a Lazy Susan in my cabinets to organize my spices and baking goods.
Store your flours, sugars, pastas and cereals in clear plastic labeled containers. They save a lot of space and keep your foods from moisture and bugs. Keep small food items like seasoning packets or Jello boxes in baskets or storage bins
If you are like most of us, your counter tops are littered with items that you don’t use and then you wonder why you don’t have enough work space. Clear it off and place only the items you use on a daily basis, leaving yourself a generous work space.
Do you have small appliances that you no longer use or worse have never used? Sell them on EBay or donate them. Keep only what you will use. If you have items or appliances that you only use once a year, store them in the section of your cabinets that are too high to reach for everyday items, or in a storage area of your home.
Visit your nearest Container Store or check it out online for many wonderful space saving ideas. Also Home Depot or Lowe’s carry items that will help with your storage needs.
