In a family with 3 sons, we really go through the tennis shoes. They have holes, rips, stains, and I won’t even mention the smell. There is no way I can donate them to charity, and I hate to fill up the landfills with them. Can you believe that someone wants these old outcasts? Nike does!
Nike’s Reuse a Shoe Program will take your old sneakers, grind them up, and remake them into a variety of products. This helps the environment, helps us by clearing out the clutter, and helps the community.
Here is a little information from Nike’s website about their recycling program.
Today, your worn-out athletic shoes can already live on in something new: a track, a basketball court, a playground. But tomorrow, our goal is that sports shoes, apparel and equipment will also be recycled into new Nike products. This way the materials we use will go through many cycles of design, manufacture and use. Just like bottles, cans and paper do now.
Clean out your closet, take a peek under the bed and ask your friends and family – chances are, you’ll find a few pairs of kicks lying around that have seen better days.
When it’s time to say goodbye, bring your athletic shoes to any Nike Reuse-A-Shoe drop-off location – there are more than 300 locations in eight countries around the world, including all U.S. Nike stores.
If you’re not near a drop-off location, you can also mail your worn-out sneakers to our recycling facility. Please note that Nike cannot pay for individuals’ shipping costs. You can download a shipping label here, or mail them to:
