Write It Down

Follow me through the weeks as we organize our homes and our lives. Not only can organization be fun but it can also simplify our lives. There is no right or wrong way to organize your life. What works for one, may not work for another. Try some of these suggestions and see if they work for you.

Organize your day according to whether you are a morning person or a late night person. Schedule your tasks around what works for you. Buy a notebook small enough to carry with you. Keep track of errands, appointments, as well as items that will require your action. Keeping lists and working through them will give you a sense of accomplishment and a chance to prioritize your day, week and months ahead. We need to weed out the procrastination that so often takes hold of our lives.

Organize Your Family Using a Calendar

Use a large poster-sized calendar to record and organize your family’s activities. It is the perfect place to record all the important family birthdays, special occasions, activities and appointments. Keep all important phone numbers of family and friends as well as emergency numbers on your refrigerator door or on a bulletin board. Keep a note pad on your refrigerator door for your family to record items needed from the store. When you run out or are getting low, add it to the list which will make your grocery list and shopping easier with fewer trips.

Get the family involved in the planning. Come January make sure everyone has their own planner and teach them how to use it. Next week—A Place for Everything!
