Organize the Garage: May’s Fix-It-Up Project

After_Garage_Gear

Clean out and organize the garage. You may be thinking, that’s nothing. I do that all the time.  Well, I don’t. In fact, it’s been over 10 years since that garage has had a thorough purging.  So on a hot, dry, wind-less day, I spent my Saturday reorganizing and purging my long-time garage accumulations.

I’m a bit late this month with my Fix-It-Up Project.  It’s already June, and May just slipped away.  But at least I squeezed it in during the first week of June, so maybe you’ll forgive me.  May was filled with graduations, a graduation party, my birthday, planting flowers, and Mother’s Day.  It was a good month.

Keep the Air in Your Home Free of Contaminants

Air Contaminants

Did you know that the air inside your house is 2 – 5 times more contaminated than the air outdoors? And that’s bad. High pollen counts and high humidity are only two reasons that so many people are closing their windows. This makes the air quality even worse.

Cleaning Christmas Sweaters

Time to Put Them Away

Today I’ve been busy cleaning and packing away my Christmas sweaters to hide under my bed for another year. And yes, I do wear Christmas sweaters, not the tacky kind that would win one of the popular holiday Tacky Sweater contests. But I like them and enjoy wearing them.

Some are decorated with beads, some with ribbons, some with sequins. But how do you clean them without ruining them (or shrinking them to doll size)?

The Benefits of Pure Salt

The Benefits of Salt

In my blog on “Cleaning Out Your Sinuses with a Neti Pot”, I talked about the benefits of irrigating your sinuses with salt. In my search for pure salts for use with my Neti Pot, I found a wonderful website filled with great information about pure salts and their health benefits, as well as a multitude of bath and personal products. I highly recommend visiting Chievolution.com. I really enjoy this site. Have fun!

Clean and Disinfect your House & Kitchen Against the Flu

Disinfect properly

My son started feeling sick today. Whether it’s the Swine Flu, the Stomach Flu, or just a regular cold from a virus, I don’t want to get sick, and the rest of my family doesn’t want to either. The problem is how do you care for a child or family member and keep from getting sick yourself? The answer: disinfect the house!

According to the Federal Center for Disease Control, viruses and bacteria can live 2 hours or longer on surfaces, so a thorough cleaning of sinks, toilets, doorknobs, and other hard surfaces that people frequently touch is the first and most important step in preventing the spread of disease. Incubation of the flu is generally 1-3 days, but can last as long as 7 days. Persons with swine influenza A (H1N1) should be considered potentially contagous for up to 7 days after the onset of symptoms. So it’s important to clean if you think you’ve been exposed and continue the cleaning for a week after onset even if symptoms lessen.
