Replacing your light fixtures with new, modern upgrades is an easy way to add value to your house for little money.  Especially if you hit a “Going Out of Business” sale like Geri and I did recently.  With the whole light fixture store being 90% off their retail price, I bought new sconces and fixtures for many areas of the house for only a fraction of what it normally costs.

Summer is a great time to clean out your closets and basement of unwanted items.  Kids are going off to college, garage sales are abundant, and donation trucks roam the streets.  But if hosting a garage sale is not your cup of tea, then donating your items might lead to some valuable tax deductions.

Old clothes, furniture, sporting equipment and other household items all are desired by charities. Considered non-cash donations, these items can help trim your taxes as long as you itemize your deductions.

Clean out and organize the garage. You may be thinking, that’s nothing. I do that all the time.  Well, I don’t. In fact, it’s been over 10 years since that garage has had a thorough purging.  So on a hot, dry, wind-less day, I spent my Saturday reorganizing and purging my long-time garage accumulations.

I’m a bit late this month with my Fix-It-Up Project.  It’s already June, and May just slipped away.  But at least I squeezed it in during the first week of June, so maybe you’ll forgive me.  May was filled with graduations, a graduation party, my birthday, planting flowers, and Mother’s Day.  It was a good month.
