Homemade Bleu Cheese Dressing

Cheese

This Bleu Cheese Dressing recipe I borrowed from my brother-in-Law.  It is my favorite dressing by a mile. I look forward to our family meals knowing that this is one of his staples.

The characteristic flavor of bleu cheeses tends to be sharp and a bit salty. Give it a try!

Red Chili Sauce Recipe – Simple & Delicious

Red Chilies

This is a very basic and simple recipe for a quick sauce to use over homemade enchiladas.

  • 3 Tbsp. your choice of oil
  • 1 to 2 garlic minced garlic cloves
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • ½ cup red chili powder
  • 2 cups water

Saute the garlic in oil. Whisk in the flour, add chili powder and water. Cook for approximately 10-15 minutes. Be careful not to let it burn because this produces a bitter taste. Make up a large batch and freeze to have on hand. This basic sauce can be used for many different recipes. Change it up a little by adding one or more of the following: minced onions, oregano, basil, cumin and parsley.

Homemade Laundry Detergent – Cheap and Easy to Make

Detergent Ingredients

After reading about all the toxic chemicals that are added to commercial laundry detergent, I began making my own homemade version.  This is the recipe that I’ve used with great success.  It’s easy to make, has no harmful chemical additives, inexpensive, and leaves my clothes fresh and clean.

You can easily make your own homemade laundry detergent using a few simple ingredients – soap, borax and washing soda. This recipe makes almost 2 gallons, and depending on the soap you use, for well under $1.00. This recipe makes enough for around 65 loads of laundry.

One Pound Cake Recipe: 10 Different Versions

Delicious Pound Cake

One of my favorite desserts for any time of year is sliced pound cake, topped with fresh berries in a simple sugar sauce. Top with a bit of whipped cream, and wow! Simple and delicious.

Pound cakes have been made centuries. The pound cake originated several centuries ago in England; the name comes from the fact that the original pound cakes contained one pound each of butter, sugar, eggs, and flour. By the mid 1800′s pound cake recipes began to deviate slightly from the original formula to make a lighter cake. Some recipes even contained a liquid, such as alcohol or rose water. Today, pound cakes use different proportions of the same ingredients as the original formula to produce a lighter cake. But today’s cakes are just as delicious.
