Store Your Leftover Herbs in the Freezer

freeze-herbsWhat can you do with leftover herbs?  I love fresh herbs, garden grown and store bought, but I do not like having to waste what isn’t used. I’ve tried just freezing them dry, but that’s not the trick to properly storing them. Here’s how to do it.

Ideas to Reuse your Prescription Pill Bottles

empty bottlesI’m all about recycling and reusing…the more creative the better.  Here are some ideas to reuse those prescription bottles that you get from the pharmacy.  Most have child-proof caps that stay put, and of course, remember to remove the original label.  To remove the labels from pill bottles,  use a hairdryer, heat the label and inside the bottle for a minute or so.  I then label mine with my handy label maker.

White Daisies – A Great Thrift Store Find

White Daisies

I saw these daisies at the thrift store. Something about its simplicity drew me to them. They’re in a clear vase with clear marbles held in place by resin. The artificial daisies have a very life-like look to them and a kind of haphazard flower arrangement which appealed to me too. And you can’t beat the price of under $5.00.

Meat in the Refrigerator: How Long Does It Last?

Store Meat Properly

What would we do without our refrigerators? When it comes to appliances that keep our foods safe, the refrigerator may be the most important because it slows down the growth of bacteria that cause food poisoning. At temperatures between 40 and 140°F, bacteria grows most rapidly. That’s why we call this temperature range “the Danger Zone.”

A refrigerator set to 40°F or below will protect most foods – but not forever. The cool temperatures slow down bacterial growth but they don’t stop the growth completely. So, it’s important to use food in a timely fashion to help maintain freshness and quality. Over time, even chilled foods will spoil.
