My son recently married and blessed me with my new daughter-in-law. Since they live in Ecuador, you can imagine how excited I was to find out they were coming for an extended stay. Time to turn my son’s old room into a beautiful guest room–on a dime, of course!
After a trip to IKEA for a much-needed chest of drawers, I realized that I would need a TV riser. My obsession with the organization would NOT allow me to place the TV, cable box, AND a DVD player all over the top of the new chest of drawers without being neatly organized one on top of the other, otherwise, it will drive me crazy!!
A TV riser is simply made of 3 or 4 pieces of wood, couldn’t cost much, right? Oh my Lord, you would think they were made of gold and trimmed with jewels! Do you know what that means?? Yep, another do-it-myself project, so I am off to Home Depot! But wait!! When I put together my IKEA chest of drawers, the bottom drawer face was damaged with a tiny split in the wood. IKEA was great and sent me a replacement drawer face. Why not use the damaged drawer face to make the TV riser?
I measured the TV, cable box and DVD player for the perfect dimensions cut the drawer face with my jigsaw, and braced it from underneath with screws and brackets for the perfect TV riser. It is sturdy, the same color as the chest of drawers and since I already had the screws and brackets, it cost me nothing!! This is a perfect example of reusing and repurposing to save money!! Brilliant, even if I do say so myself!
